Hip joint is a ball and socket joint formed by Head of the Femur(Ball) & Acetabular Socket. Outer surface of the head and inner surface of the acetabular socket are covered with smooth cartilage for pain-free and smooth functioning of the joint. Joint is supported & strengthened by ligaments, capsule, labrum and muscles around it.
Number of factors are responsible for arthritis at hip joint
- Avascular necrosis of femoral head resulting from unknown cause, steroid drugs, alchohol, after delivery in females etc.
- Post traumatic hip arthritis
- Hip arthritis in rheumatoid patients
- Arthritis from failed previous hip surgery
- Sickle cell disease (a red blood cell disease) and so on
Generally, in arthritis of hip joint, the conservative or non surgical treatments are not successful and the only treatment option for lasting results is A TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT!!
